People jump down people’s throats if they are perceived as “defending” Joe (I mean he is a murder but people are literally doing the exact thing to OP and they weren’t defending Joe at all.) what OP is saying is Peach is also indefensible due to her actions. Guys I don’t think OP is comparing Peach to Joe.they’re comparing the way people react to/defend these characters. And that therefore the cast and crew when talking about a character receiving a problematic defence need to look at her more as she gets it a lot more than Joe does. I am not saying Peach is worse than Joe I am saying Peach is defended on a moral basis by the audience of the show more than Joe is. I'm not disagreeing with that, and I have not disagreed with that in this post or in my comments. I wish they had actually looked into the interpretations of the characters they had shown, and in all their conversations about audiences looking past a villainous character, spoke about the one who actually fit that bill. Whenever the cast and crew spoke about a villain receiving worship and praise and people looking past their flaws after season 1 aired, they always spoke about Joe. Go on Tumblr and look at the Peach Salinger hashtag.

This would not go down well, and that actor would have stirred up a controversy for himself. Tried to pressure Beck into leaving her life in New York and going to Paris with herĬan you imagine if Peach was not a gay woman, but another straight man doing this to Beck? Now imagine his actor was making defences of him. Mocks Joe literally for not being high class Hired a literary agent to try and discourage Beck from continuing her writing career because she wanted to make Beck be dependent on herĭrugged Beck and sexually assaulted her, then gaslighted her about it the next day, saying that Beck started the kisses and she just "went along with it" Takes unconsensual sexual photography of Beck while she sleeps and keeps it stored on her laptop for her viewing pleasureįakes a suicide attempt to get Beck's attention, and based on Beck saying to Joe "this isn't the first time Peach has tried to kill herself" it seems that this is something she does a lot She is predatory, manipulative, psychologically abusive and elitist. While Peach obviously is not as bad a person as Joe, she is absolutely terrible. Heck Shay Mitchell herself has defended Peach: The character who I've always seen however get a lot of defence even for a villain is Peach.ĭoes anyone else remember this sub prior to season 2? People on here were always making Peach out to be the hero of the story who just wanted to protect Beck from Joe the stalker and praised her as the "only one who could see past his disguise".Įven today a lot of people say that Peach was a good person and friend to Beck who's only desire was to defend her from her creepy stalker boyfriend. Lots of villains have people that defend them and claim them to be good out of affection for them. While he does have some stans, for a villain it's not overdone. Soo everyone says that Joe is a terrible guy (true) who the audience swoons over and makes out to be the hero of the story (false). PREFACE: I'm not too confident with the way I wrote the title, did it sound like I was saying that Joe isn't the villain of the show but Peach is the villain? If so I'm not saying that, Joe is obviously worse by a clear long shot
